Light breaking through darkness — trauma healing and restoration

Restoring Hope Ministries — Green Bay, WI

Trauma Counseling & PTSD Healing

Your story does not end in the wound. Christ-centered trauma counseling — integrating biblical care, Brainspotting, and neurofeedback — for those healing from PTSD, abuse, childhood trauma, and complex wounds.

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3

Our Approach

Trauma-Informed Biblical Counseling

Trauma changes people. It rewires the brain, reshapes relationships, and raises the hardest theological questions: Why did God allow this? Does He see me? Can I trust anyone again?

At RHM, we address trauma with the full weight of what it is — neurologically, psychologically, spiritually, and relationally. We do not rush healing or offer oversimplified answers. We sit with you in the hard places, just as the God of all comfort sits with us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Our approach integrates biblical counseling with trauma-sensitive tools — including Brainspotting (BSP) and neurofeedback — to address the full dimension of your healing.

A person in quiet, focused healing — trauma counseling

Types of Trauma We Address

No trauma is too complex, too old, or too shameful for care. RHM serves individuals healing from a wide range of traumatic experiences.

Sexual assault and rape
Combat and military trauma (PTSD)
First responder and occupational trauma

Sudden death of a loved one
Religious trauma and spiritual abuse
Racial trauma and systemic injustice
Vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) from chronic relational trauma

Our Integrated Trauma Care Tools

We use a carefully integrated set of tools — none of which replace Scripture or Christ, but each of which can serve as an instrument in His healing work.

Core

Biblical Counseling

The foundation of all care at RHM. Scripture-anchored, pastoral, and relationally engaged. Helps clients bring their trauma story into the light of God's Word, lament honestly, and receive the hope of the gospel.

Available

Brainspotting (BSP)

A specialized, eye-position-based trauma processing modality that accesses deep, subcortical brain regions where trauma is stored. Conducted within a Christ-centered, prayerful framework at RHM.

Available

Neurofeedback

Evidence-based brain training that helps regulate the dysregulated nervous system — particularly helpful for PTSD, hypervigilance, and chronic trauma responses. Available through RHM's licensed care track.

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound…"

— Isaiah 61:1

This is Jesus' own statement of mission — and the mandate that shapes every trauma care room at RHM. Healing is possible. Freedom is real. We believe this because He said it.

When Trauma Affects Your Faith

Trauma often raises the hardest questions about God: "Where was He when this happened to me?" "How can I trust a God who allowed this?" "Is my anger at God a sin?"

RHM counselors are trained to hold these questions with reverence — not to deflect them or shut them down with easy theology, but to bring them openly before God in the context of a safe, pastoral relationship.

The Psalms of lament show us that God can receive our anger, our confusion, and our grief. He is not threatened by honest prayer. RHM believes the path to healing runs through honesty, not around it.

"Can I still trust God after what happened?"
"Why didn't God stop this?"
"Am I damaged beyond repair?"
"How do I forgive someone who hurt me so deeply?"
"What does healing actually look like?"
"Is it okay to be angry at God?"

Frequently Asked Questions

What is trauma and how does it affect the brain and body?

Trauma is the lasting emotional, psychological, and physiological response to events that overwhelm the body's ability to cope. It can affect memory, emotional regulation, physical health, relationships, and faith. The brain's threat-response system can become dysregulated, causing ongoing hypervigilance, numbness, flashbacks, or avoidance long after the event.

Can faith heal trauma?

Faith is a crucial dimension of trauma healing — but it is not a quick fix. God is the ultimate Healer, and we trust His sovereign work in the process. He works through many instruments: Scripture, community, pastoral care, prayer, and sometimes clinical and somatic tools like Brainspotting or neurofeedback. RHM holds all of these in biblical integration.

What is Brainspotting and how is it used for trauma at RHM?

Brainspotting (BSP) is a trauma-processing modality developed by Dr. David Grand that uses specific eye positions to access deep, subcortical brain regions where trauma is stored. At RHM, it is used within a Christ-centered pastoral framework — always alongside Scripture, prayer, and biblical counseling, never as a standalone technique.

Is trauma counseling available via telehealth?

Yes. Many aspects of trauma care — including biblical counseling and pastoral support — are available via secure telehealth through Doxy.me. Brainspotting and neurofeedback require in-person visits. Our team will help determine the best format for your situation.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened?

No. Trauma therapy does not require you to relive or re-narrate your entire story in detail. RHM counselors are trained in trauma-sensitive approaches that respect your pace, your boundaries, and your safety. You are in control of what you share and when.

Your Story Doesn't End Here

Healing is possible. RHM will walk with you — with competence, compassion, and the full weight of Scripture and grace.

Care That Is Measured — Because People Are What Matter

Restoring Hope Ministries tracks the well-being of every participant in our clinical and faith-based services using empirically validated screeners, clinical interviews, behavioral analysis, and self-report — so we can honestly see whether the people we serve are getting better.

This rigor reflects the training of our founder, Dr. Jeffrey Gross, who earned an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology and is continuing his Psy.D. studies in Clinical Psychology, with completion anticipated in 2028. His Th.D. in Theology and Ph.D. in Christian Counseling complement that clinical education with theological preparation for Christ-centered soul care.

At Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin, he served as a Student Psychologist and later Chief Student Psychologist, supporting veterans and first responders with traumatic brain injuries through the BRAVE program. His work included assessment, individualized treatment planning, multidisciplinary rehabilitation, psychoeducational and process-oriented groups, and peer supervision. His experience also includes supervised psychological testing of clergy at Milwaukee Psychotherapy Collaborative, recovery-focused group development at The Manor by Windrose, and case management and peer-support supervision at Biehl Bridges to Recovery.

Continuing education in assessment, trauma, neurobehavioral conditions, supervision, ethics, and risk management further informs this approach. Together, these experiences help shape RHM’s commitment to careful assessment, responsible documentation, collaborative care, and attention to each person’s spiritual, relational, emotional, and practical needs. His clinical psychology doctorate remains in progress; this background does not replace the qualifications or licensure required for regulated clinical services.
