Why Education Standards Matter Here
A word from the heart of Restoring Hope Ministries leadership
Imagine a builder who loves people deeply. He picks up a hammer out of genuine compassion and begins constructing homes. His heart is right, his desire is real — but he has never studied load-bearing walls, electrical codes, or what happens to a structure when the foundation is laid wrong. He means well. But the families who move in are at risk.
Restoring Hope Ministries exists at the intersection of some of the most sensitive realities a human being will ever walk through — trauma, addiction, grief, broken relationships, mental health crises, and the deep longing for spiritual restoration. We are deeply grateful for every person who feels called to this work. But good intentions, while precious, are not sufficient on their own.
We have found — with honesty and without judgment — that a significant portion of available training in the broader biblical counseling and Christian ministry space does not adequately prepare practitioners for the legal, ethical, and theological complexities that this work demands. Mandated reporting obligations. State-specific scope of practice boundaries. Federal confidentiality protections. Dual-relationship ethics. Vulnerable adult protections. These are not footnotes — they are the walls and foundations of the house we are trying to build together.
This is not a criticism of anyone's journey or training. It is an honest recognition that our setting — serving real people in real crisis — requires a particular level of preparation. We hold ourselves to a standard of theological education matching or exceeding the rigor of the Restoring Hope School of Biblical Counseling (RHSBC), not because we prize credentials above character, but because the people we serve deserve practitioners who know both what Scripture says and what the law requires — and can hold both with integrity.
Education is deeply valued at Restoring Hope Ministries — not as a gatekeeping mechanism, but as a stewardship of the sacred trust placed in us by vulnerable people. We believe a well-formed practitioner is a more effective servant of the Gospel. And we believe that formation — theological, legal, ethical, and personal — is an act of love toward those we are called to serve.
Biblical & Theological Integrity
Scripture is our supreme and sufficient authority. Every counseling approach, care protocol, and ministry decision at RHM is evaluated against God's Word — not adjusted to fit cultural trends or therapeutic convenience.
Legal & Ethical Competency
Loving people well means knowing what the law requires of us on their behalf. We serve vulnerable individuals, which means legal fluency is not optional — it is a form of care.
Leadership Formation & Board Pathway
For those sensing a deeper call to lead within RHM's governance and mission, our Board of Directors Leadership Pathway offers a structured route to board involvement — grounded in the same standards of character, theological formation, and ministry accountability that we expect of all RHM staff.
Employment Philosophy & Compensation
How we value our team and steward the Gospel through faithful employment practices
At Restoring Hope Ministries, we believe that those who serve in biblical counseling and ministry leadership carry a sacred responsibility. Because of the weight of this calling — the souls we walk alongside, the ethical complexity of our work, the spiritual and legal accountability we bear — we are committed to honoring those who serve on our staff with compensation that reflects the value of their work.
Our Commitment
When we directly offer an employment role at RHM, we hold strict biblical guidelines about compensation. We believe our employees should be able to provide for their families, save for the future, and afford rest and renewal — including time away for vacation and personal restoration.
"The laborer deserves his wages." — 1 Timothy 5:18
What This Means
RHM employment positions carry higher compensation than contractor roles precisely because we recognize the spiritual weight of the work, the ethical responsibility it carries, and the need for our team members to practice what we preach about Sabbath, family, and rest. Our employees should live out the gospel of grace — not burnout.
Our hope: That each team member can genuinely care for themselves, their families, and their own souls — resting confident that RHM values their calling enough to compensate it fairly. We believe spiritual leaders who are well-resourced, cared for, and rested are more effective servants of the Gospel.
Leadership Pathway to the Board of Directors
A Year of Service Minimum Before Leadership Consideration
Restoring Hope Ministries recognizes that leadership on the Board of Directors is a sacred trust. For this reason, anyone sensing a call to governance leadership within RHM must first demonstrate faithful service within the ministry through at least one year of active engagement.
Minimum 1 Year
Active service as RHM staff, contractor, or sustained volunteer before board consideration
Demonstrated Fit
Alignment with RHM's mission, biblical convictions, and values in actual ministry context
Leadership Review
RHM leadership discerns calling, character, and readiness for governance role
Why We Require a Year of Service
- To verify genuine calling and ministerial alignment beyond initial application
- To see someone's character, work ethic, and commitment demonstrated over time
- To allow natural relationships and trust to develop with leadership and community
- To ensure governance decisions are made by those deeply rooted in RHM's mission
Board Leadership is a calling, not a reward. It requires deep formation, proven integrity, and prayerful discernment. We invite anyone sensing a call to board leadership to first engage faithfully in service — allowing God to confirm the calling and allowing RHM leadership to discern whether this role is indeed where the Spirit is leading.
